Articles & Reviews – Atletico Madrid & Real Madrid
Atletico Madrid welcomes Real Madrid in the big derby of the 12th round of the Spanish La Liga. This is going to be the first time when Atletico’s new stadium Estadio Wanda Metropolitano hosts the big derby of Madrid.
It’s curious to see that both teams have the same amount of points at the moment – 23. They both have some difficulties since the start of the new campaign and they are on 8 points behind the leader Barcelona. In other words, they both do not have room for any mistakes right now.
Atletico are one of the only three unbeaten teams since the start of the new season, alongside Barcelona and Valencia. Their record at the moment is six wins and five draws. In their last game the Rojiblancos managed to achieve a difficiult 1-0 win during the visit to Deportivo La Coruna. Before that Cholo Simeone’s team made a 1-1 draw at home against Villarreal, which was another dissapointment for the club’s fans.
Real Madrid are the reigning champions of Spain, but they didn’t start the new season in the best way possible. Their record since the start of the new campaign is seven wins, two draws and two losses, which is far from perfect. In the last round Zinedine Zidane’s team didn’t face any problems against Las Palmas at home, but before that Real suffered a shocking defeat during the visit to the newcomers Girona.
Let’s have a look at the team news before the match.
Atletico Madrid have some problems before the derby, related to the condition of Diego Godin, Stefan Savic, Filipe Luis, Koke and Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco. They are all doubtful for the big game, so Diego Simeone would hope that they will be avaliable for the match.
Meanwhile Zinedine Zidane will be without the injured Gareth Bale, while key figures like Isco, Toni Kroos, Keilor Navas and Dani Carvajal are all doubtful for the match.
